One Killed, DUI Driver Arrested after Peoria Pedestrian Accident on 79th Avenue and Olive Avenue
PEORIA, AZ (May 13, 2024) — One person died following a pedestrian accident on 79th Avenue on Thursday, May 2.
According to the Peoria police, the crash occurred near 79th Avenue and Olive Avenue at about 10:40 p.m.
Police said a driver moved westbound near the intersection. Then they struck the unidentified person in the middle of the road.
When officers arrived at the area, they found a pedestrian whom they pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity was not immediately available.
However, as officers investigated the initial incident, another driver barreled through the crash site. The vehicle almost struck several officers working the scene.
Peoria police quickly took the driver of that vehicle into custody. They charged him with DUI and nine counts of endangerment.
There were no injuries reported during the crash.
Authorities continue the investigation into both incidents.
