One Killed after Bellevue Floatplane Accident at Lake Sammamish
BELLEVUE, WA (September 18, 2023) — One person died, and another sustained critical injuries after a floatplane crash at Lake Sammamish on Friday, September 15.
The Bellevue Fire Department first posted about the floatplane crash at Lake Sammamish shortly after 11:10 a.m.
BFD said when crews arrived, they discovered people from a private boat at the scene rescuing the people on the plane.
Bellevue fire rescue swimmers then jumped into the lake and searched for more survivors. Officials then found out only two people were on board the floatplane that crashed, a single-engine Seawind 3000.
Witnesses said they saw the plane try to take off two or three times. Then it nosedived into the water from being 50 feet in the air.
The BFD said one of the residents of the private boat administered CPR for 15-20 minutes until fire crews took over.
One man did not survive the crash.
Officers then transported another to the hospital in critical condition with a head injury. However, medical personnel said his injuries were non-life threatening.
The National Transportation Safety Board and The Federal Aviation Administration handle the investigation of the crash.
