Olga Gavula and Emily Huffman Dead, Shawn Johnson Arrested in DUI Accident on Fountain Boulevard and Powers Boulevard

 
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (July 1, 2024) — 72-year-old Olga Gavula and 51-year-old Emily Huffman died in a three-car DUI crash on Sunday, June 16.
 
According to the Colorado Springs police, officers and firefighters responded to the intersection of Fountain Boulevard and Powers Boulevard shortly after 11:30 a.m.
 
Investigators believe a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Shawn Michael Johnson moved southbound on Powers Boulevard. At the same time, the two other vehicles moved east on Fountain Boulevard and tried to turn onto Powers Boulevard.
 
CSPD lieutenant said that as the second and third vehicles began their turn, Johnson’s vehicle struck them.
 
Officers said two people died in the crash and a third sustained injuries.
 
On Tuesday, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 72-year-old Olga Gavula and 51-year-old Emily Huffman.
 
After speaking with witnesses, police said they believe drunk driving and speeding contributed as factors in the incident. They arrested Johnson and he now faces charges.
 
Authorities expect the injured person to survive.
