DESERT AIRE, WA (October 8, 2024) — Misael Leon and Guisela Veintimilla sustained injuries in a box truck accident on Friday, September 27.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash took place on Highway 243 near Milepost 3 shortly after 6:00 a.m.
 
WSP said 29-year-old Misael Leon, of Moxee, drove a box truck northbound on Highway 243. Then his vehicle left the roadway onto the shoulder.
 
After that, Leon overcorrected. As a result, it caused the vehicle to fall over on its side at milepost 3. At the same time, 47-year-old Veintimilla, of Desert Aire, moving southbound on Highway 243 hit the freight vehicle.
 
Emergency responders airlifted Leon via to the Kadlec Hospital in Richland for treatment. They also brought Veintimilla via ambulance to the same hospital.
 
Reports said Leon faces charges of Negligent Driving in the Second Degree.
 
WSP reportedly ruled out impairment as a factor in the incident.
 
The incident is still under investigation.
