AMARILLO, TX (December 19, 2024) — 32-year-old Matthew Handlon, of Amarillo, died in a head-on accident on Monday, December 9.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Highway 136 and FM 293.
 
Texas DPS said Handlon who drove a 2020 Ford Transit south on Highway 136 veered into oncoming traffic due to a medical episode. Then his vehicle crashed head-on into a Ryder truck.
 
Emergency responders arrived and pronounced Handlon dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics airlifted the other driver to Northwest Texas Hospital. They identified him as 21-year-old Dillon Johnson, of Amarillo.
 
Officials closed Highway 136 as they investigated and crews cleared the scene. They reopened it at about 12:54 p.m.
 
The investigation of the crash is still underway.
