Marianieves Vasquez Killed in Lubbock Car Accident on Highway 62
LUBBOCK, TX (January 30, 2024) — One person, 45-year-old Marianieves Leon Vasquez of Seminole died in a crash on Wednesday, January 24.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened near Highway 62 and County Road 341 just before 7:30 p.m.
DPS said an investigation determined a Toyota Tacoma and a Chevy Silverado were going east on the highway. Then the Tacoma crashed into the rear of the truck.
Officials said the impact caused the Silverado to go off the road and overturn into a ditch.
Vasquez, who was the passenger in the Silverado, died at the scene.
DPS said paramedics rushed the driver, 47-year-old Sergio Villegas, of Seminole, to Covenant Health in Hobbs for his injuries.
Another passenger in the vehicle with Villegas and Vasquez was a 15-year-old boy from Seminole. Medics rushed him to UMC in Lubbock with serious injuries.
According to DPS, emergency responders the driver of the Toyota to Covenant in Hobbs for his injuries. They identified the driver as Kerry Williams, of Hobbs.
The crash is still under investigation.
