79-Year-Old Maria Slayton Identified in Fatal Accident in Whatcom County

 
WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (February 16, 2023) – Officers identified 79-year-old Maria Slayton of Everson as the victim who died in a red-light accident on Trapline Road on February 12.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened at East Badger Road around 1:30 PM. Based on a report, the victim was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent north on Trapline Road at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, she ran a stop sign at Badger Road, where a vehicle struck her car.
 
As a result, she suffered grave injuries and died at St. Joseph hospital.
 
The driver of the other vehicle, 48-year-old Rick L. Hecock of Bellingham, was not hurt in the incident.
 
Police do not suspect drug and alcohol use as factors in the crash.
 
At this point, an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
