Maria Federico Dead, Daniel Rojas Hurt in Potter County Two-Vehicle Accident

 
AMARILLO, TX (March 3, 2025) — A 78-year-old woman identified as Maria Federico died in a two-vehicle crash on Thursday, February 20.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred around 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of Lakeside Drive and FM 1912.
 
Officials said 28-year-old Anthony Johnson, of Wewoka, Oklahoma, drove a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Lakeside Drive. Then he failed to stop at a stop sign. After that, it entered the path of a westbound 2014 Kia Forte on FM 1912.
 
The Kia’s front left side then struck the right front quarter panel of the Silverado.
 
Paramedics transported Federico, a passenger in the Kia, to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries. She later died at the hospital.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics also brought the Kia driver with sustained serious injuries to the hospital. They identified him as 62-year-old Daniel Rojas of Spearman.
 
Johnson was not hurt in the crash.
 
Authorities confirmed that both Federico and Rojas wore seatbelts during the incident.
 
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash.
