Marcos Benitez Fatally Hits Bicyclist in Las Vegas

 
LAS VEGAS, NV (November 10, 2022) – Police arrested 27-year-old Marcos Francisco Benitez of Las Vegas after hitting and killing a cyclist on East Flamingo Road on November 4.
 
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Maryland Parkway shortly after 5:30 PM. Based on a report, Benitez was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac east on Flamingo Road when he hit the rear of a 2011 Kia Sorrento.
 
Subsequently, he sped away and struck two bicyclists riding in the auxiliary lane. Then, his vehicle collided with eight vehicles that were stopped in the intersection.
 
As a result, one of the bicyclists died in the incident. Officials did not yet release the name of the victim, pending kin notification.
 
Crews took the second bicyclist to Sunrise Hospital with critical injuries. A driver from California and three passengers suffered minor injuries. Another driver had moderate injuries.
 
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said Benitez is facing charges of drunken driving and hit and run in a crash.
