EDINBURG, TX (October 9, 2023) — Officers arrested Manuel Zavala Jr. after a DUI crash that injured two people on Monday, August 28.
 
According to the Edinburg police, officers responded to a major collision at the intersection of South Jackson Road and West Wisconsin Road at around 2:07 a.m.
 
A witness said a white 2022 GMC Sierra swerved into other lanes at speeds at around 80 mph. Then it crashed into a silver Toyota 4Runner.
 
When officers arrived at the scene, they found both vehicles heavily damaged vehicles. They also found two people, a mother and son, inside the Toyota 4Runner. The mother sustained two fractured ribs. Her son had a fractured nose, a laceration to the top of his head, and a concussion. Paramedics transported them both to a local hospital for treatment.
 
Witnesses also told officers the driver of a white 2022 GMC Sierra left the scene of the collision. At that time, other officers in the area found a person who matched the description at the 3000 block of S. Jackson Road. They identified him as Zavala.
 
According to reports, Zavala showed signs of intoxication. Officers arrested and booked him into the Hidalgo County Jail. Records show they set his bond at $365,000.
