BERKELEY, CA (November 22, 2022) — A man died following a motorcycle crash on Interstate 80 on Thursday afternoon, November 17.

The fatal collision happened at around 1:27 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities said the man riding a motorcycle had been lane-splitting between two lanes on westbound I-80 just past the Gilman Street onramp.

He then collided with a Mazda before falling onto the road, where a tow truck struck him.

The force of impact caused fatal injuries to the unidentified motorcyclist. It was unclear if he died at the scene or at a hospital.

Officials are conducting an investigation into the factors of the incident, which could be influenced by alcohol or drugs.
