APACHE JUNCTION, AZ (January 10, 2025) — A driver identified as 19-year-old Luis Daniel Pacheco died in an accident on Thursday, December 26.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred on Highway 60 near Meridian Road just before 6:00 p.m.
 
Arizona DPS said Pacheco traveled east on Highway 60 near Meridian Road. Then another driver struck the rear of Pacheco’s vehicle.
 
The impact of the incident caused Pacheco’s vehicle to overturn across the median through the cable barrier. It eventually came to a stop in the westbound lanes.
 
Pacheco was ejected from his vehicle. Emergency responders brought him to the hospital, where he later died.
 
Troopers said they have ruled out impairment as a factor in the accident.
 
Officers closed both directions of the highway for several hours at Ironwood Drive. They fully reopened the highway at about 10:20 p.m.
