90-Year-Old Lois Gnegy Dead, Joshua Malchow Arrested after Speeding Crash on Harrison Avenue

 
CENTRALIA, WA (January 31, 2024) — A 90-year-old woman identified as Lois Gnegy died in a speeding crash involving a stolen vehicle on January 24.
 
According to the Centralia Police Department, the crash happened in the 400 block of Harrison Avenue at about 9:30 a.m.
 
Police said a 38-year-old Joshua Lee Malchow, of Centralia, drove a Honda Civic at a high rate of speed north on Harrison Avenue. Then he attempted to pass a semi-truck in a no-passing zone and swerved into oncoming traffic.
 
He ultimately crashed head-on with a black Toyota truck in the southbound lane. As a result, the Toyota was also rear-ended by a Mitsubishi Eclipse.
 
Gnegy who was behind the wheel of the Toyota suffered critical injuries. Paramedics brought her to a Centralia hospital. After that, they airlifted her to a Tacoma hospital, where she died.
 
Investigators later found out that the Honda was from Chehalis and is a stolen vehicle.
 
Medics also rushed Malchow to the hospital for a cut on his head. After his medical release, they booked him into Lewis County Jail.
 
On January 26, Lewis County Superior Court charged Malchow with one count each of vehicular homicide, theft of a motor vehicle, and third-degree driving with a suspended/revoked license. They also set his bail to $100,000.
