Leah Nyakundi Dead and Henry Ellingsen Hospitalized after Port Angeles Accident

 
PORT ANGELES, WA (August 29, 2024) — A 34-year-old Lacey woman identified as Leah Nyakundi died in an accident on Monday, August 12.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash took place on Highway 101 near Del Guzzi Drive at around 1:38 p.m.
 
WSP said Nyakundi traveled eastbound on Highway 101, just east of Del Guzzi Drive. Then her 2019 Mercedes GLS crashed into the rear of a 2007 Toyota Prius.
 
After that, Nyakundi’s vehicle continued eastbound. Then it crossed the center line and left the roadway into the westbound ditch. It then overturned and hit a tree.
 
WSP said the Prius came to a stop and blocked the eastbound and westbound lanes.
 
Emergency responders pronounced Nyakundi dead at the scene.
 
Paramedics brought the Prius driver to Olympic Medical Center with injuries. They identified him as 58-year-old Henry D. Ellingsen, of Port Angeles.
 
Both drivers wore seatbelts, and both vehicles were wrecked.
 
Authorities have not yet determined if impairment was a factor in the accident.
