Juan De Leon Hospitalized after Fatal DUI Accident in Las Vegas

 
LAS VEGAS, NV (May 8, 2024) — A 23-year-old man identified as Juan De Leon sustained injuries in a fatal DUI crash on Sunday, April 28.
 
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the accident happened at Buffalo Drive and Peacock Avenue, north of Charleston Boulevard, at around 10:40 p.m.
 
LVMPD said De Leon drove a Honda Accord south on Buffalo at a high rate of speed. Then he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and crossed into oncoming traffic. After that, he collided with a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 78-year-old man.
 
Emergency responders brought both drivers to University Medical Center. Medical officers pronounced the 78-year-old driver dead.
 
Meanwhile, De Leon sustained injuries and remains hospitalized. Officers booked him in absentia for DUI and reckless driving, resulting in death. They said he showed signs of intoxication.
 
Authorities closed the northbound lanes of Buffalo to traffic for about eight hours while police investigated the accident.
 
The fatal accident marks the 57th traffic-related death in Metro’s jurisdiction this 2024.
