Suspected DUI Driver Jorge Colung Identified in Fatal Weslaco Accident
WESLACO, TX (June 27, 2024) – Officials identified 28-year-old Jorge Colung of La Feria who died in a suspected DUI accident on FM 1015 on June 7.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened just south of Mile 5 Line at approximately 6:30 PM. Based on a report, Colung was driving a northbound black Dodge Charger with a pregnant woman at the time of the crash.
At the same time, a gray Toyota Scion was traveling southbound with a woman and two passengers. Due to unknown reasons, Colung attempted to pass other vehicles in a no-passing zone. When he failed, he tried to veer back onto the northbound lane and collided with the Toyota.
As a result, Colung suffered grave injuries and died at the scene. His pregnant passenger went into labor at the hospital.
Crews also took the driver and a passenger of the Toyota to a local hospital with injuries.
Troopers believe Colunga was drunk at the time of the accident.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
