Johnathan Morales Fatally Hit in Pedestrian Accident on 40 Freeway

 
CARSON COUNTY, TX (December 12, 2024) — A 31-year-old Amarillo man, Johnathan Morales, died in a pedestrian accident on Monday, December 2.
 
According to the Texas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at around 11:18 p.m. on 40 Freeway, around 0.89 miles west of Groom.
 
Texas Highway Patrol said the crash involved a 2004 Roadtrek 190 Popular RV that moved eastbound in the right lane of 40 Freeway. The driver, 35-year-old Brandon Langston of Duncan, Oklahoma, tried to avoid a pedestrian who stood in the roadway. He braked and swerved to the right. Yet, he was unable to avoid the accident.
 
Carson County Justice of the Peace Kathleen Barkley pronounced the pedestrian later identified as Morales dead at the scene.
 
Langston, who wore a seatbelt, did not sustain any injuries in the incident. Two passengers in the RV were also not hurt. They identified them as 52-year-old Laura McCartney, of Oklahoma City, and 43-year-old Kevin Scott, of Moore, Oklahoma.
 
Texas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
