COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 4, 2024) — Joel Montalvo and Darlisse Rivera-Albino died in a wrong-way crash on Sunday, May 26.
 
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the accident happened on 25 Freeway near Circle Drive at around 4:45 a.m.
 
CSPD said they received reports of a driver moving the wrong way on the northbound 25 Freeway. As they tried to handle that report, several more 911 calls came in reporting a head-on accident.
 
After that crash happened, a citizen stopped and went out of their vehicle to help. While they tried to cross the freeway, a vehicle moving northbound struck him.
 
CSPD and CSFD responded to the area. They then pronounced one driver and the good Samaritan dead on the scene. They also brought the wrong-way driver to the hospital. Medical personnel pronounced the driver dead upon arrival.
 
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified on Tuesday the Samaritan as 64-year-old Joel Montalvo. In addition, they also identified one of the drivers as 37-year-old Darlisse Rivera-Albino. The identity of the wrong-way driver was not yet available.
