Jerry Marti Arrested, Student Hurt after Pedestrian Accident

DIANA, TX (February 20, 2025) — Officers arrested 56-year-old Jerry Martin, of Longview, after a pedestrian accident on Monday, February 10.

According to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the 5600 block of FM 726.

Upshur County Sheriff’s Office said students were boarding a New Diana ISD school bus. Then Martin’s vehicle failed to stop despite the bus having its red loading lights activated.

He swerved to avoid a direct collision. However, the vehicle’s side mirror clipped the student who tried to cross the roadway. The student’s mother was reportedly present and witnessed the incident.

Emergency responders transported the elementary-aged student to a local hospital for treatment. The child has since been released.

Deputies arrested Martin. After that, they booked him into the Upshur County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They then set his bond at $100,000, and he was released later that night.
