One Killed, Jermell Johnkint Arrested in Colorado Springs Crash on Platte Avenue

 
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (September 25, 2023) – The Colorado Springs Police Department arrested 23-year-old Jermell Johnkint after a fatal crash on East Platte Avenue on September 17.
 
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened at North Institute Street shortly after 2:00 AM. Based on a report, Johnkint was driving a vehicle east on Platte Avenue at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, he lost control and hit the median curb, causing the vehicle to roll over. The force then ejected the occupants of the car.
 
As a result, all three victims suffered injuries in the incident. CSPD said crews transported them to the hospital, where one person died. Officials did not release the victim’s name, pending kin notification.
 
The second victim sustained life-threatening injuries.
 
Officers arrested and booked Johnkin into the El Paso County jail on DUI charges relating to the crash.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
