Jefry Alvarenga Charged after Child Died in Houston DUI Crash
HOUSTON, TX (March 10, 2025) — Authorities arrested 28-year-old Jefry Jose Canaca Alvarenga after DUI crash on Sunday, March 3.
According to the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 6600 block of Southwest Freeway.
Investigators said Alvarenga drove a black Nissan Rogue northbound on the freeway with his 9-year-old daughter. Then a Kia Soul, also heading north, rear-ended their vehicle.
The child sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders arrived and then transported her to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
Meanwhile, three occupants of the Kia Soul were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities determined that Alvarenga was under the influence at the time of the crash. After that, they charged him in connection with the incident.
Houston Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
