Heather Marquez Arrested in Yakima DUI Crash

 
YAKIMA, WA (May 13, 2024) — Authorities arrested 53-year-old Heather Lea Marquez, of Wapato, after a DUI accident on Friday, April 3.
 
According to the Yakima police, the incident took place on the South 24th Avenue side of a Calvary Cemetery at about 9:30 a.m.
 
Yakima Police said a 2014 Honda Accord drove north in the 1600 block of South 24th Avenue. Then it went off the street, went over a curb, and struck the ATV the man was on.
 
When officers arrived at the area, they discovered the 18-year-old man lying on the ground with blood coming from his head.The man suffered a severe cut near his right knee that would require surgery.
 
They also saw a woman and an infant sitting nearby.
 
A witness identified Marquez as the driver of the Accord. Officers noticed that she displayed symptoms of intoxication. In addition, she failed some field sobriety tests.
 
Officers said the 10-month-old infant was Marquez’s grandchild.
 
Authorities booked Marquez into the Yakima County jail on domestic violence reckless endangerment and suspicion of vehicular assault while driving under the influence. They also barred her from having any contact with her grandchild and the injured man.
