George Meletis Dies after Phoenix Bus Accident near 75th Avenue and Van Buren Street

 
PHOENIX, AZ (October 22, 2024) — A 59-year-old man identified as George Meletis died in a bus accident on Monday, October 7.
 
According to the Phoenix Police, the incident happened at about 5:00 a.m. at a transit center near 75th Avenue and Van Buren Street.
 
Phoenix police said two transit employees went into a small Circulator bus. When they turned the bus on to conduct initial checks, the vehicle moved forward. The bus then struck Meletis who was another employee in the bus parking lot. After that, the vehicle also hit another bus.
 
Emergency responders pronounced Meletis dead at the scene.
 
Paramedics brought the two people on the bus to a hospital in critical condition. Officers said they are expected to survive.
 
As of writing, it is still unknown why the bus moved or what caused the crash.
 
Phoenix Police do not suspect any foul play in the incident. They continue to investigate to determine the cause of the crash.
