George Meletis Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Phoenix

 
PHOENIX, AZ (October 22, 2024) – The Phoenix Police Department identified 59-year-old George Meletis who died in a pedestrian accident on 79th Avenue on October 7.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Van Buren Street around 5:00 AM. Based on a report, Meletis was on the road at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, a shuttle bus accelerated and hit a parked car. The car then ran over Meletis. The shuttle bus then hit another bus that was empty and parked.
 
As a result, Meletis suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
Authorities said two men inside the shuttle bus had non-life-threatening injuries.
 
A charging decision will come after the investigation is complete.
