Francisco Lopez Killed and Nereyda Valenzuela Arrested after Phoenix Car Accident
PHOENIX, AZ (October 8, 2024) — A 21-year-old man, Francisco Ortiz Lopez, died in a car accident on Sunday, September 29.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on Loop 202 near 24th Street at about 2:45 a.m.
The Arizona DPS said 48-year-old Nereyda Ontiveros Valenzuela traveled west in a Dodge Ram on Loop 202 in the HOV lane. Then she collided with a Nissan Sentra driven by Lopez that was in the same lane.
Troopers said that the sedan had some damage and was not moving due to an earlier crash.
The impact of the accident ejected Lopez from the Sentra. He suffered fatal injuries and died.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported Valenzuela to the hospital. Authorities said she will face charges of manslaughter and endangerment.
DPS continues to investigate if speed or impairment contributed as a factor.
