One Killed after Car Crash on Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway

 
TEMPE, AZ (March 29, 2024) — A driver died in an accident on Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway on Monday, March 25.
 
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, which responded to the scene with the Tempe Fire Department, the crash took place on eastbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway near Priest Drive at about 2:00 a.m.
 
Arizona Department of Public Safety said a Dodge Avenger hit the concrete median. Then the vehicle stopped in the HOV lane before a Ford Escape struck it.
 
The impact ejected the driver of the Avenger on the roadway. After that, multiple other vehicles struck the driver.
 
Responding officers pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
 
Phoenix Fire said paramedics transported four other people to hospitals with serious injuries. However, DPS believes they are not life-threatening injuries.
 
Authorities closed both directions of traffic for some time due to the debris. However, they closed the eastbound lanes until just after 9:00 a.m.
 
Arizona DPS continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
