Derklya Fort Dead and Samantha Johnson Arrested after Marshall Car Accident

 
MARSHALL, TX (November 15, 2024) — A 23-year-old woman identified as Derklya Fort died in a car accident on Sunday, November 3.
 
According to the Marshall Police Department, the incident occurred on Martindale Drive at about 10:00 p.m.
 
According to Marshall police, they responded to reports of a disturbance involving around 40 people on the 100 block of Martindale. They arrived and discovered several females were in a fight.
 
Officers found Fort, who was one of the women, underneath a vehicle along with her injured 5-year-old son nearby. EMS also arrived and pronounced Fort dead at the scene. They then brought her son to a hospital.
 
Marshall police investigators said 22-year-old Samantha Johnson, of Marshall, drove the vehicle that hit Fort and her child.
 
Police arrested Johnson and then brought her to Harrison County Jail. They then charged her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, murder, and injury to a child with intent.
