David De Jesus and Yesenia De Castillo Die in Fiery Car Accident in Mesa
MESA, AZ (October 10, 2024) — David Ortiz De Jesus and Yesenia Morales De Castillo died in a fiery car accident on Friday, September 27.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. near Country Club Drive and Iron Avenue.
DPS said a white Ford pickup truck driven by 39-year-old Brett Quadlin did not stop at the red light at the intersection. He then crashed into another vehicle and caused a fiery chain-reaction multi-vehicle collision.
Crews responded and extinguished the fire on affected vehicles.
The two people died at the scene. Authorities identified them as 48-year-old David Ortiz De Jesus and 46-year-old Yesenia Morales De Castillo.
Paramedics also transported another driver to the hospital with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, Quadlin fled the scene. Officers tracked and later arrested him.
Investigators said Quadlin drove at a high rate of speed and was impaired at the time of the accident. Additionally, he also reportedly admitted that he smoked marijuana that morning.
Authorities booked Quadlin into jail on felony charges of three counts of endangerment, two counts of manslaughter, aggravated assault, and leaving the scene of a fatal collision. They set his bond at $1 million.
