David Calvert Jr., Daylee Overton, Emma Carroll, and Christopher Overton Fatally Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 60

 
CARSON COUNTY, TX (January 3, 2024) — David Calvert Jr. and three others died in a crash on Wednesday, December 18.
 
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the incident occurred at around 4:52 p.m. on Highway 60, approximately six miles west of Panhandle.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 81-year-old David Calvert Jr., of Amarillo, drove a Jeep Compass east in the inside westbound lane of Highway 60. At the same time, a Ford Fusion traveled west in the inside westbound lane of the same highway.
 
Officials said Calvert drove on the wrong side of the road. Then he crashed head-on into the Ford and caused both vehicles to catch fire.
 
Emergency responders pronounced Calvert dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the Ford and its two passengers also died at the scene. Officials identified the driver as 20-year-old Daylee Overton of Panhandle. Authorities also released the identities of the passengers as 19-year-old Emma Carroll of Kansas and 17-year-old Christopher Overton.
 
The crash remains under investigation.
