Danny Vasquez Sr. Killed and Dane Powell Arrested after Lubbock DUI Accident

 
LUBBOCK, TX (September 25, 2024) — A 49-year-old Slaton man identified as Danny Adam Vasquez Sr. died in an accident on Friday, September 20.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on Highway 84 and County Road 7200 at about 9:30 p.m.
 
DPS says Vasquez Sr. traveled east on Highway 84 on a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle. At the same time, the rear portion of a Chevrolet pickup truck was over the left lane of travel on Highway 84. Vasquez’s motorcycle then hit the rear portions of the pickup truck and lost control.
 
Responding officers pronounced Vasquez dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup was not hurt. Authorities identified him as 60-year-old Dane Lay Powell, of Snyder.
 
Officers said Vasquez wore a helmet at the time of the crash.
 
According to online jail records, authorities arrested and booked Powell into the Lubbock County Detention Center. They charged him with intoxication manslaughter. He has since posted bond as of Monday.
