Daniel Zarate Dead, Another Man Hospitalized after Head-On Crash on Highway 12 near Nine Mile Canyon Road

 
TOUCHET, WA (July 1, 2024) — A 25-year-old Kennewick man identified as Daniel Zarate died in a head-on accident on Thursday, June 13.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Highway 12 near Nine Mile Canyon Road.
 
WSP said Zarate was traveling westbound on Highway 12 when he drove off the road. After that, he overcorrected, then ended up in the eastbound lane. It resulted in him colliding head-on with an eastbound pickup truck.
 
Emergency responders arrived and pronounced Zarate dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the pickup sustained injuries and paramedics transported him to Kadlec Medical Center. His current condition is not available at this time. Officials only described him as a 37-year-old man from Burbank.
 
The Washington State Department of Transportation closed the highway as a Med Star helicopter landed to help the injured. It has since been reopened.
