Colorado State Trooper Tyler Atkins Airlifted after DUI Accident in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (December 1, 2024) — CSP Trooper Tyler Atkins sustained injuries in a DUI accident on Wednesday, November 13.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the incident happened at about 3:44 p.m. along Highway 115 and Little Turkey Creek Road.
CSP said Atkins was sitting in his marked patrol vehicle while investigating a traffic incident along Highway 115 and Little Turkey Creek Road. Then another vehicle hit him from behind.
Emergency responders airlifted Atkins to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. They later released him and he is currently recovering at home.
CSP said the driver who crashed into the patrol vehicle stayed at the scene. Paramedics also brought him to an area hospital.
There were no reports of other injuries in the crash.
According to CSP, they suspect the other driver of being impaired.
The CSP Vehicular Crimes Unit handles the ongoing investigation of the accident.
