Cordelia Chen-Gilchrist Identified in Fatal DUI Crash on Highway 509 in Burien
BURIEN, WA (February 28, 2025) – Authorities identified 53-year-old Cordelia Chen-Gilchrist who died in a crash on Highway 509 on February 22.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened near the Seattle border.
Based on a report, a 26-year-old man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee rear-ended Chen-Gilchrist’s Toyota 4Runner. The crash then sent the Toyota into a tree.
As a result, Chen-Gilchrist died in the incident while her husband suffered injuries.
Minutes before the crash, a King County Sheriff’s Office deputy said he attempted to stop the Jeep. Subsequently, the suspect continued north of the highway and accelerated a high rate of speed before colliding with the victim’s vehicle.
The deputy found the suspect walking away from the crash scene and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to court records, the suspect had two outstanding warrants for prior DUI arrests, and he was required to have an ignition interlock device on his car.
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
