WAXAHACHIE, TX (August 24, 2023) — Two Texas men, namely Cody Austin Beard and Craig Morgan Warrick, died in a crash on Friday, August 11.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a fatal head-on crash took place on Highway 287, one mile east of Cayuga, Texas, at around 5:18 p.m.
The accident involved two vehicles: a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2021 Ford F250. Officers said both vehicles traveled at the posted speed limit of 70 mph.
According to the preliminary investigation, the Ford F250 driven by 36-year-old Warrick, of Waxahachie, tried to pass in a no-passing zone in the eastbound lane. Then his vehicle crashed head-on with the Chevrolet Silverado driven by 23-year-old Beard, of Crockett.
The impact forced both vehicles off the road to the south. Then the vehicles subsequently caught fire.
A Justice of the Peace pronounced both Beard and Warrick dead at the scene. Reports said both men wore their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
The investigation, led by Trooper B. Taylor of DPS Palestine, is still underway.
Our sincerest sympathies to the loved ones of Cody Beard and Craig Warrick.
