Beth Bargas Killed and Ilya Slavin Arrested in Lakewood DUI Crash

 
LAKEWOOD, CO (June 20, 2024) — A 65-year-old Lakewood woman, Beth Bargas, died in a DUI accident on Wednesday, June 5.
 
According to the Lakewood Police Department, the crash took place on West Colfax Avenue and Garrison Street at about 5:54 a.m.
 
Lakewood police said 37-year-old Ilya Slavin, of Centennial, drove a white GMC pickup truck east on West Colfax Avenue. Then he collided with a white Audi at the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Garrison Street. After that, Slavin’s truck overturned into a nearby shopping center and struck another car.
 
Bargas, who drove the Audi, died at the scene. Paramedics transported the 47-year-old passenger in the Audi to the hospital with several injuries.
 
Officers arrested Ilya Slavin for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault while driving under the influence and other charges.
 
Police are still determining whether the truck overturned into the shopping center or rolled on its tires.
 
Authorities closed the intersection until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday while they conducted an investigation.
