Amanda Smith Identified in Fatal Mesquite Accident on 30 Freeway
MESQUITE, TX (November 21, 2023) – The Mesquite Police Department identified 50-year-old Amanda Smith of Dallas who died in a semi-truck accident in the 3000 block of eastbound 30 Freeway on November 13.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Gus Thomasson Road around 12:35 PM. Based on a report, a semi-truck lost control, hit a center barrier on the highway, and flipped onto its side.
As the overturned trailer continued to slide eastbound in the westbound lanes, it struck Smith’s Honda van and then two Toyota SUVs before coming to a rest.
As a result, Smith suffered grave injuries in the incident. Crews transported her to a local hospital, where she later died.
Police said Smith was transporting several cats in carriers that broke, leaving at least three cats injured. The driver of the first Toyota SUV, 74-year-old Freda Easley of Royse City, sustained critical injuries. The driver of the Toyota SUV, 37-year-old Kefyalew Jaleta of Dallas, was in the hospital in stable condition.
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
