Alex Calderon Dead, Two Hurt in Motorcycle Accident near Dobson Road and Southern Avenue
MESA, AZ (July 2, 2024) — A 23-year-old man identified as Alex Calderon died in a motorcycle crash on Friday, June 14.
According to the Mesa police, the accident happened shortly after 9:45 p.m. near Dobson Road and Southern Avenue.
Police believe Calderon rode a motorcycle west on Southern Avenue at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a Mazda SUV was waiting at the light on Southern, preparing to turn right onto Sycamore Avenue. Then the motorcycle hit the Mazda.
Responding officers arrived at the scene and discovered Calderon partially trapped under the vehicle.
Emergency responders extricated and then transported Calderon to the hospital with critical injuries. After that, medical personnel pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
Paramedics brought the two people who occupied the Mazda to the hospital with minor injuries. They were quickly discharged after treatment.
Officers tested the Mazda driver for DUI. However, Mesa police said the results will not be available for a few weeks.
