Deputy Joshua Maloy Identified in Fatal Christmas Eve Crash in Weld County

WELD COUNTY, CO (January 5, 2024) – The Adams County Sheriff’s Office identified 31-year-old deputy Joshua Maloy of Greeley who died in a crash on Weld Country Road 49 on December 24.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened around 5:21 PM. Based on a report, Maloy was driving a Toyota Tacoma southbound on the road before the crash.

At the same time, a 36-year-old woman from Loveland was driving a Toyota Tundra northbound. Due to unknown reasons, the woman crossed the center double-yellow-line painted median into the southbound lanes and hit Maloy’s car head-on. The deputy’s vehicle traveled off the west side of the road while the woman’s car continued northeast and re-entered the northbound lanes before coming to a stop.

As a result, Maloy suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.

The woman and a 2-year-old girl in her car suffered serious injuries while a 1-year-old boy had minor injuries. Crews transported them to the hospital for treatment.

CSP said alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed were not factors in the crash.

As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.

We offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Joshua Maloy.
