Aaron Cervantez and 18-Year-Old Edwin Macias Identified in Fatal Crash on 45th Avenue at Soncy Road in Amarillo

 
AMARILLO, TX (July 1, 2024) – The Amarillo Police Department identified 20-year-old Aaron Cervantez of Dimmitt and 18-year-old Edwin Macias who died in a crash on 45th Avenue on June 7.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Soncy Road around 8:57 PM. Based on a report, Macias was driving a Cadillac CTS with Cervantez at the time of the crash.
 
At the same time, 19-year-old Dawson Pemberton was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe at a high rate of speed. Due to unknown reasons, Pemberton drove through a red light and crashed into the Cadillac CTS, causing it to spin and eject Cervantez.
 
As a result, both Cervantez and Macias died at the scene.
 
Crews took Pemberton and another passenger in the Cadillac, 18-year-old Alexander Rivera to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
 
Police said the crash damaged nine cars. They suspected speed and alcohol as factors.
