Aaron Avila Fatally Killed in Rockdale Crash on Highway 79

 
ROCKDALE, TX (January 4, 2024) – Aaron Avila died while Fred Hanhart and Clayton Merka suffered injuries after a crash on Highway 79 on Saturday evening, December 23.

According to the Rockdale Police Department, the fatal crash occurred around 10:00 p.m. near the 700 block of Highway 79/Cameron Avenue.

Initial investigation reported that Avila crossed into the center lane and struck Hanhart’s vehicle while waiting to turn into Wal-Mart.

Medics took 20-year-old Avila to a local hospital where he later died, police said.

Hanhart and his passenger, 31-year-old Clayton Merka also received medical transportation. The former is in a critical condition while the latter sustained minor injuries and was released.

The crash remains under investigation. No other details are available.
