Eduardo Jimenez Dead, Alberto Santos Arrested after Phoenix Hit-and-Run

PHOENIX, AZ (August 11, 2024) — 81-year-old Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez died after a hit-and-run on Sunday, July 28.

According to the Phoenix police, they received reports of an injured person near Cave Creek Road and Bell Road just after 6:00 a.m.

When officers arrived, they discovered an unconscious man near a damaged bicycle. They then pronounced the man dead at the scene who they later identified as Jimenez.

The vehicle that struck the bicyclist left before officers arrived. However, while investigating, detectives saw a car nearby. It has damage consistent with a recent accident.

Officers questioned the driver, 27-year-old Alberto Chilel Santos, and detained him. While in custody, he displayed signs of intoxication.

An initial investigation determined that Santos drove eastbound on Grandview Road. Then he went into oncoming traffic. After that, he drove onto a sidewalk where he struck Jimenez, who stood next to his bicycle.

Officers said Santos admitted that he left the scene after the accident. However, he said he did not notice that he struck anyone.

Authorities booked Santos into the Maricopa County Jail. He then faces charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash. They set his bond at $200,000 cash.
