Caleb Ramirez Fatally Injured in Bicycle Crash on East Eller Street

 
PHARR, TX (May 24, 2024) — An 8-year-old boy identified as Caleb Ramirez died in a bicycle accident on Friday, April 26.
 
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the crash happened at the 700 block of East Eller Street at around 7:30 p.m.
 
A report said a black GMC Sierra pickup traveled eastbound on East Eller Street as it exited the driveway. The 17-year-old male driver said he drove 25-30 miles per hour. He added that he did not notice the bike in front of him and was unable to stop in time.
 
In addition, the report said that Ramirez tried to cross the street on a bicycle from the driveway. It said he did not yield the right of way to the truck. After that, the truck hit the bicycle with the front bumper of the vehicle.
 
Ramirez sustained fatal injuries due to the incident and died. The report listed his time of death at 8:09 p.m.
 
Authorities gave a citation to the driver of the GMC truck for a charge of no driver’s license.
