Suspected Hit-and-Run Driver Andrea Mendoza Involved in Fatal Pedestrian Accident in San Angelo
SAN ANGELO, TX (August 15, 2024) – The San Angelo Police Department arrested 19-year-old Andrea Mendoza following a fatal hit-and-run in the 3100 block of North Chadbourne Street on August 4.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened shortly after midnight. Based on a report, Mendoza was speeding when she hit a man on the road and fled the scene.
Officers found the 53-year-old man with substantial injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. As a result, SAPD Chief Travis Griffith said the man died in the incident. Police did not yet release the victim’s name, pending kin notification.
Authorities then found the suspect vehicle, a white 2000 Mercury Sable, in the same block, south of the scene of the crash. They later located and took Mendoza into custody.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
