18-Year-Old Dies after Sylmar Hit-and-Run on Foothill Boulevard
SYLMAR, CA (December 5, 2022) — An 18-year-old man died while another person was hurt in an alleged hit-and-run on Foothill Boulevard on Sunday morning, November 27.
The fatal collision occurred at around 11:45 a.m. south of Sayre Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Authorities said a 2003 silver Ford Mustang, driven by the 18-year-old victim, headed south on Foothill Boulevard at a high rate of speed when a 2000s silver SUV made an exit from a store parking lot.
In an attempt to evade the SUV, the Mustang driver swerved into oncoming traffic where it slammed into a 2000 silver Toyota Tundra, operated by a 58-year-old man.
As a result, the teen died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Tundra survived the crash with minor injuries. He received treatment at a local hospital.
The driver of the SUV did not stop at the collision site and continued traveling south. Officials suspected that the person behind the wheels of the SUV caused the incident, which turned into a hit-and-run case.
In the meantime, police continue to investigate and search for the alleged hit-and-run driver. They encourage anyone with information to contact the police department at 818-644-8033 or 818-644-8000.
