PEORIA, AZ (June 19, 2024) — A 17-year-old girl died in a two-car crash on 75th Avenue on Wednesday, May 22.

According to the Peoria Police, the accident occurred shortly before 11:00 a.m. at 75th Avenue and Cholla Street, just north of Peoria Avenue.

The initial investigation determined that the driver of a blue 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche moved southbound on 75th Avenue. At the same time, a black 2005 Toyota Scion — the car the 17-year-old was in — turned left to go westbound on Cholla Street. Then the two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection.

The driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche suffered minor injuries from the crash. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital.

The two people in the Toyota Scion sustained life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders also brought them to a local hospital, where the 17-year-old later succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities said the teen girl’s name will not be available because the investigation is still underway, and she is a minor.

Officers closed the area for hours before they reopened it around 4:45 p.m.
