Kayden Schwartz Dead after San Benito Hit-and-Run

 
RIO HONDO, TX (February 17, 2025) — Harlingen resident Kayden Schwartz, 15, died after a hit-and-run on Sunday, February 9.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 3:03 a.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 1846 near County Road 278.
 
Texas DPS said Schwartz rode a bicycle northbound on FM 1846. Then a vehicle traveling in the same direction struck him from behind.
 
After the collision, the suspect driver fled the scene without providing aid. Schwartz died at the scene from his injuries.
 
Officials described the suspect vehicle as a Ford pickup, possibly a 2023-2025 F-250 or a similar model. In addition, they said the vehicle has chrome trimming and front-right damage.
 
The investigation of the incident is ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver to contact the Texas DPS at (956) 565-7600.
