Sergio Granados Fatally Injured in Ellensburg Car Accident on 82 Freeway

 
ELLENSBURG, WA (September 10, 2024) — 10-year-old Sunnyside boy, Sergio J. Fernandez Granados, died in an accident on Sunday, September 1.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on 82 Freeway, approximately 7 miles east of the Ellensburg city limits.
 
WSP said an eastbound car on 82 Freeway driven by a 24-year-old Sunnyside woman tried to change lanes. Then it hit a flatbed truck that moved eastbound.
 
Granados, who was a passenger in the vehicle, died at the scene. He wore a seatbelt, the WSP news release said.
 
The woman and another passenger, an 8-year-old boy, did not sustain any injuries.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the flatbed truck, a 37-year-old man from Mexico, was also not hurt in the accident.
 
Authorities said impairment was not a factor in the accident.
