Nancy Chapman and Leslie Mitchell Identified in Fatal Tri-Wheel Motorcycle Accident in De Leon
DE LEON, TX (August 6, 2024) – Officials identified 54-year-old Leslie Renae Mitchell of De Leon and 68-year-old Nancy Menzdorf Chapman of Stephenville who died in a motorcycle accident on FM 1496 on July 16.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at approximately 1:00 PM. Based on a report, Mitchell was driving a Can-Am Spyder F3 tri-wheel motorcycle with Chapman south of FM 1496 at the time of the crash.
Due to unknown reasons, she drove across the oncoming northbound lane and into the shoulder, crossing a private driveway. The report said Mitchell lost control of the motorcycle and went into a side skid. She then hit a mailbox and rolled. The impact threw her and Chapman off the motorcycle. Neither was wearing a helmet.
As a result, both women suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
Investigators believe Mitchell experienced a medical issue that caused the crash.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
