Lino Garcia Dead, Roger Mason and Margarita Garcia Injured in Matador Wrong-Way Accident

 
MATADOR, TX (July 8, 2024) — A Floydada man identified as 73-year-old Lino Garcia died in a wrong-way crash on Thursday, June 20.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the head-on accident took place on Highway 62, about five miles east of Matador, shortly before 12:30 a.m.
 
The crash investigation determined that 80-year-old Roger Mason drove a 2023 Dodge Charger on the wrong side of the highway. Then he struck a 2000 Ford Taurus driven by Lino Garcia in the westbound lane.
 
Responding officers pronounced Lino Garcia dead at the scene. Meanwhile, they also transported the passenger, 72-year-old Margarita Garcia, of Floydada, to UMC with major injuries.
 
Emergency responders also brought Mason to UMC with incapacitating injuries.
 
According to the DPS report, the road was dry and weather conditions were clear and cloudy when the incident happened. All passengers wore seat belts.
 
Authorities continue to investigate this crash.
