Wyoming Swimming Team Athletes Carson Muir, Luke Slabber, and Charlie Clark Killed in Larimer County Accident

LARIMER COUNTY, CO (March 5, 2024) — University of Wyoming swimmers Charlie Clark, Carson Muir, and Luke Slabber died in a crash on Thursday, February 22.

The Colorado State Patrol said the solo-vehicle accident happened on Highway 287, about 10 miles south of the Wyoming-Colorado border. It occurred just before 2:45 p.m.

According to CSP, a Toyota RAV4 occupied by five people moved south on Highway 287. Then it went off the left shoulder and overturned multiple times.

The initial investigation determined that the driver of a vehicle in front of the RAV4 slowed and then probably turned left. This caused the driver of the RAV4 to swerve and after that, their vehicle went off the road and crashed.

Three people died in the incident. University of Wyoming later confirmed and released on Friday the identities of the deceased victims who were all swimming team members. They were 19-year-old Charlie Clark, a sophomore on the men’s team; 18-year-old Carson Muir, a freshman on the women’s team, and 21-year-old Luke Slabber, who is a junior on the men’s team.

In addition to the three deceased, two others sustained injuries. They have been medically cleared on Friday.

There are no reports of whether speed, impairment, or other distractions were factors in the crash.

Our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Luke Slabber, Charlie Clark, and Carson Muir.
